A Simple, Sweet Faith Like a Child

I loved the verse that I found today while reading my Bible and doing my soap journaling(search soap on my blog for more info on how the Bible has come alive to me using this method)

“But Samuel, though he was only a boy, served the Lord”- 1 Samuel 2:18a

I love this verse and I have never noticed it before.  It does not matter how young one is- they can serve God.  The faith of a child is a beautiful thing.  Kids can serve God.  They have a sweet trust and faith.

Their faith is not jaded, pessimistic about the future, etc.

They don’t feel like they have all the answers.

They have lots of questions.

They seek out answers to their questions.  So teachable and open.

They don’t need to know all the “right” answers, doctrine or theology to serve God.

They don’t feel a need to take a stand on a particular issue or to choose which side they align with.

They are comfortable with the mystery of a HUGE God.

They know and love God and that is enough to serve God.

The faith of a child inspires me.  My mind and heart can get so wrapped up in confusing debates or issues.  Don’t hear me wrong- my faith is not just heart based.  I have used my mind extensively as I pursue answers and study about God and reasons to believe.  But I want to remember that I don’t need to have all the answers.  I never can have all the answers so I want to focus on what I know:

  • God is good
  • God is faithful
  • God is mighty to save
  • God loves me
  • God is patient, wanting none to perish
  • God gives peace, joy, strength, and hope
  • God forgives me when I ask him to
  • and the list goes on and on
I want to serve God like this child served God.  Jesus, help me to serve you all my days.
