I Have to Stand in Awe

The location of our new home is beyond my wildest dreams.  It is so peaceful.  Several times a day I will hear the trees blowing through a window or sliding glass door and I have to stop and listen and just stare.  I feel compelled to, like I am trying to soak up every ounce of it.

God’s creation causes me to be still and stand in awe.  My kids like to tease me and say, “Mama, you are crazy about trees!”   I had asked my hubby if I have always been so crazy about trees and he said, “I remember even in college you would go lay/sit under the trees up on McNally campus.”  A memory that I forgot about.  I would love to take my backpack and books and work up there or lay my head on my backpack and watch the breeze blow through the trees.  Or another favorite spot on campus was  a long walkway lined with trees.  I also love a summer youth camp called Hume Lake in Northern California.  The smell of pine brings me back there.  Our neighborhood feels like it belongs there.

I love trees and his creation because it points me back to my amazing creator.  The beauty, complexity and creativity of our world causes me to stand in awe.

The sound of the trees moving in the breeze makes me think of a chorus of trees, they are singing the praises of God.  This journal entry had been on my heart for days and then I found a cool verse while reading my Bible this morning.

“Let the whole world glorify the LORD; let it sing his praise.”- Isaiah 42:12

That explains why I LOVE to hear a stream, ocean waves crashing, trees swaying in the wind, leaves being rustled by the wind, crickets etc.  It is as though I am observing a masterpiece while listening to a chorus sing to God of his greatness.  It recenters me.  It refocuses my heart.

Other verses that come to mind are:

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.”- Psalm 19:1
Another translation says, “The heavens proclaim the glory of God.  The skies display his craftsmanship.”

“I tell you,” he replied, “if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”- Luke 19:40
“He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”
